TLV is one of the most expensive cities I've been to. Here's a short guide for the adventurous backpacker or the broke Israeli, both of whom probably just share the hope to have a taste of TLV without going bankrupt. The places are written in an ascending order, by price per 0.5L (if they serve 0.33L or a pint, I recalculated it to a 0.5L price). The date of the last visit to the bar is designated in a (month/year) format.

Please feel free to use the comments in order to add your reviews on the places mentioned below, to correct mistakes and to offer new places for the list. We'll deal with the 3 essentials of life, by order of importance:
1. Beer
All day (evening) long
15NIS/0.5L
- Beer drop - Ibn Gvirol 17 st.- all for 10 NIS (0.33L of nice beers, including Goldstar unfiltered and Paulener), simple snacks like simple pizza and popcorn and wine. (updated 11/14)
There's another branch in Florentine but it's not clear if it's still open (11/14)
- Coffix Bar - Lilenblum st. - they have bottles of Goldstar and Eagle and serve 0.25ml glasses for 5NIS (so it's even less than 10NIS/0.5L), and offer a variety of shots for 5NIS and also the regular cofix menu of cofee&various snacks for 5 NIS. However, this isn't a "real bar" and it's more of a place you enter for a short drink on the way somewhere. It's also kosher and therefore closed on Friday after around 15-16 and on Saturdays until around 19:00 (or generally until ~2 hours after sunset). (updated 9/14)
25NIS/0.5L
- 22 - Yirmiyahu 22 st. - OK beers (including Weinshtephan), nice food and all for 22NIS (price for pint) (updated 9/14)

- Drink Point - several branches in TLV and outside of it i.e Ben Yehuda 41. They have simple beers from the tap (Tuborg&Carlsberg) which are served for 17NIS in 0.33L glasses, as well as cava (17NIS) and simple snacks. (updated 11/14)
Happy hours:
Israelis usually go out late, and more so on weekends. So the bars tend to offer good deals for early drinkers, we'll present the best deals, starting with places that have happy hour prices up to 22:30PM:
15NIS/0.5L
- Salon Berlin - Najara st. (near Shuk Hakarmel) - 1+1 on all drinks (i.e 2 beers for 30), beer+shot ("chaser") for 20, before 22:30. They have nice beers like Paulaner&Bazelet (an Israeli boutique beer), all served for 30NIS (updated 12/14)

19NIS/0.5L
- Heder 140 - Ben Yehuda 140 st. - 1+1 on drinks before 22:30. They have nice beers and wine, however the beers here are served in pint glasses and cost around 32NIS per pint. (updated 12/14)
- Tosca - Ibn Gvirol 17 st. (near Beer Drop) - 1+1 on food and drinks everyday up to 22:00PM (updated 12/14)

- Mezcal - in Florentine - 1+1 on San Miguel beer (wherever you sit) and on cocktails (if you sit on the bar) - between 16:00 and 19:00PM, including weekends (updated 9/14)
- Cheers - in Florentine - 1+1 on drinks up to 23:00PM (on weekdays) and up to 22:00PM on weekends (haven't been yet)
2. Cellphone Programmes (updated 11/14)
The best deal for 3g e.t.c is with 012, Golan telecom or youphone. It'll cost you around 40NIS + simcard (~50NIS) and you'll get unlimited calls, SMS, internet and in some programs also calls abroad. The little downside is that you must give them your credit card and cancel the program before you leave (I think it's doable also online, at least with Golan). Look up 012 mobile, Golan telecom and youphone online.
As far as I know the programs I'm talking about don't require an ID and an address, you only need an international credit card and a passport. My friend from Germany got the Golan sim&programme and is using it right now. It seems much cheaper than the prepaid ones.
The downside of the Golan programme is that you need to buy the simcard for 50NIS, so the whole program will cost you 87NIS per month (unlimited calls/sms+2GB) -
(please switch to English, it's the "Summer Promotion") https://www. golantelecom.co.il/web/

I think that with 012 mobile you can get a simcard for 33NIS in one of the "Yellow" stores (that exist in almost every "Paz" gas station), and so their program will be 39+33=72NIS (unlimited calls/sms+2GB) -
(use google translate - it's the one in the middle) http://www.012mobile. co.il/

I think that if you add a bit more money (maybe 10NIS) you can also get unlimited calls to land lines in Europe and the US, so it's worth to check it out with the company representative when you make the plan.
3. Food
I'll try to write it down later, but for now you can use this cheap food thread from the TLV Couchsurfing place page:
